The New York Giants’ depleted offensive line took another hit ahead of Week 7 against the Washington Commanders — the team announced on Thursday that guard Shane Lemieux has been placed on injured reserve with a torn biceps that was suffered during practice.
It’s just the latest addition to a litany of injuries sustained by the offensive line. All-Pro tackle Andrew Thomas has been out since Week 1 against the Cowboys with a hamstring injury while Joshua Ezeudu was placed on IR with a toe injury.
Both Matt Peart and rookie center John Michael Schmitz have injured shoulders, Evan Neal did not practice on Thursday because of an ankle issue
Sean Harlow was signed from the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad to fill his spot. He’s the fourth lineman signed by the Giants in the past week after bringing on Tyre Phillips from the Philadelphia Eagles and Joshua Miles from the Atlanta Falcons on Tuesday before elevating Justin Pugh from the practice squad on Wednesday after he played in all 77 offensive snaps on Sunday night against the Buffalo Bills.
The instability within the offensive line has made the Giants’ protection unit one of the worst in football. Their 33 sacks allowed are second-worst in the NFL behind New York’s Week 7 opponent, the Commanders.
It’s also uncertain who they’ll be protecting come Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium. Starting quarterback Daniel Jones’ status is unknown after missing Week 6 with a neck injury.
