Upstate NY man wins ‘best mullet’ in America again with ‘The Lord’s Drapes’

An Upstate New York man has won back-to-back titles for the “best mullet” in America.

Scott Salvadore was named the 2023 USA Mullet Champion Wednesday, making it his second year in a row as “America’s Best Mullet.” He was automatically entered in this year’s Top 25 “Mane Event” as the reigning champ, and then reclaimed his crown after fans voted for him again online at mulletchamp.com. Salvadore won additional points when fans donated in his name to to Jared Allen’s Homes for Wounded Warriors, a charity that helps provide homes for our wounded veterans.

“I hate losing,” Salvadore told syracuse.com | The Post-Standard earlier this month. “My wife says Miss America never won twice in a row… I’m like, well, Miss America never looked as good as this.”

Salvadore, a 35-year-old resident of Stillwater, N.Y., calls his glorious business-in-the-front, party-in-the-back hairdo “The Lord’s Drapes.” Salvadore said that he got the nickname from comedian Theo Von, who has a similar hairstyle.

“Dang, bro, you got the lord’s drapes,” Von told Salvadore after meeting at a comedy show in New York City, according to Salvadore.

The mullet was among the most popular hairstyles in the 1980s, featuring short hair in front and long flowing locks in the back. Celebrities with the iconic “hockey haircuts” have included David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust, Mel Gibson, Patrick Swayze, Joan Jett, Billy Ray Cyrus, Wayne Gretzky, Danny McBride’s Kenny Powers (“Eastbound & Down”) and, more recently, people like Morgan Wallen.

Salvadore told syracuse.com he was a fan of Wallen until the country star shaved off his famous mullet earlier this year, saying he didn’t like his long hair anymore.

“Morgan Wallen’s a quitter. He’s a traitor,” Salvadore said. “I’m done with him.”
