A school crossing guard died on duty Friday morning after she was fatally struck by a dump truck in Queens, police said.

The woman who died in the collision was identified as Krystyna Naprawa, 63, according to DC 37, the city employees union that represents crossing guards.

Police said Naprawa was standing in a crosswalk at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Woodhaven Boulevard at around 8 a.m. when she was struck by a dump truck that was turning right.

โ€œThese heroes put their lives on the line for our kids and neighborhoods every day, and todayโ€™s tragedy makes that stark fact unavoidable,โ€ said DC 37 Executive Director Henry Garrido in a statement. โ€œThis is the third guard struck by a vehicle in just a matter of months โ€” anything over zero is unacceptable.โ€

Naprawa had been a school crossing guard since 2010, according to the union.

Emergency responders found Naprawa unresponsive and ultimately pronounced her dead at the scene.

The operator remained at the scene and is not currently facing charges.
