The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference on Tuesday named Travis Tellitocci, a 2004 graduate and former deputy athletic director of league member Marist, as its next commissioner
Tellitocci spent the past six years as assistant commissioner at the Ohio Valley Conference, where he oversaw football, basketball and officiating.
Tellitocci will take over on May 15, succeeding MAAC commissioner Rich Ensor, who is retiring at the end of the 2022-23 season.
“We will not be afraid to take chances in the MAAC,” Tellitocci said. “That’s been something throughout my career that’s been a hallmark of my career. We’ll be strategic, calculated and steadfast in our approach to those chances, but we definitely want to be bold, innovative and have vision.”
Siena athletic director John D’Argenio, whose school is one of the 11 MAAC members, endorsed Tellitocci’s hiring. Tellitocci, who spent 10 years in Marist’s athletic department, will be the fourth commissioner in MAAC history.
“An outstanding professional and person who can lead our membership forward while building on the MAAC’s past successes,” D’Argenio texted.
Tellitocci said he spoke extensively about possible conference expansion during the interview process.
“I think as you look at potentially adding teams, one of the things we talked about all the time here in the OVC was, the school has to be the right fit,” he said. “Location is obviously part of that in terms of wanting to look at new markets, potentially, and increase exposure for the league. I don’t think there’s a perfect number I put on it at this time.”
