MONTICELLO- Work at the Sullivan County Airport will be taking off thanks to a newly minted agreement between the county and labor leaders.ย Earlier this week, County Manager Joshua Potosek and Hudson Valley Building & Construction Trades Council President L. Todd Diorio announced the signing of a Project Labor Agreement (PLA) for construction at the new terminal.
โIโve been happy to work with the labor unions and the Legislature on this important agreement, which I just signed last week,โ said Potosek.ย โPLAs like this provide for stability, consistency and efficiency on major projects, keeping costs down.ย The last one we signed was for the construction of the County Jail, and it proved to be beneficial.โ
โI commend Sullivan County elected officials and the County Manager for the commitment to a PLA,โ said Diorio.ย โPLAs have been successful in Sullivan County and the entire Hudson Valley, ensuring quality construction projects brought in on time, on budget, and ensuring local labor on these projects.โ
โAs a legislator and former chair of the Public Works Committee, Iโve encouraged PLAs to be put together whenever possible, as they eliminate problems that otherwise might cause a project to be delayed or even derailed,โ said District 7 Legislator Joe Perrello, who chaired the Legislatureโs Public Works Committee when this project was first discussed.
โPLAs mean everyoneโs on the same page regarding holidays, pay rates, apprenticeships, and working hours,โ explained District 5 Legislator George Conklin, current chair of the Public Works Committee. โThat saves time, money and plenty of headaches!โ
