Tottenville High School alum and Baltimore Ravens running back Gus Edwards put together a strong game in week seven of the NFL season.
During what turned out to be a blowout against the Detroit Lions, the veteran back posted 64 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. Nicknamed “Gus the Bus,” the Staten Islander also caught a pass for an 80-yard gain to register 144 total yards.
The Ravens secured one of their most impressive wins of season defeating the Lions (now 5-2) by a score of 38-6. The Ravens gained over 500 yards and scored five touchdowns as their defense virtually shut down the Lions’ offense.

The 80-yard reception by Edwards was a highlight in what was considered a very strong game for the 28-year-old back. The catch and run marked the longest reception of his career. It was also the biggest gain of any Ravens’ player this season thus far.
After bursting onto the NFL scene in 2018 as an undrafted free agent out of Miami and Rutgers, Edwards churned out three consecutive 700-plus yard rushing seasons, averaging better than five yards per carry in the process.
In 2021, Edwards was slated to be the Ravens’ starter in after J.K. Dobbins, a second-round pick the year prior, tore his ACL in training camp. Two weeks later, Edwards suffered the same injury and both players missed the entire campaign. Dobbins suffered a torn Achilles tendon in September, ending his 2023 season.
