Hobart rallies past Buffalo State 3-2

The Hobart College rallied to defeat Buffalo State College 3-2 in a back-and-forth affair on Cozzens Field. With their fourth straight win, Hobart is 9-5-2 overall this season.

Frederick Madsen and Chris Friedlander finished the game with a goal and an assist each for the Statesmen. Guillermo Castañeda Chang played all 90 minutes in goal and made four saves.

Yousif Kowa and JB Almontaser scored the goals for the Bengals (10-4-3). Max Shoemaker started in goal for Buffalo State. He made seven saves.

• Hobart finished the game with a 24-9 advantage, including a 10-6 edge in shots on goal.

SCORING SUMMARY

• Hobart opened the scoring in the fourth minute. Madsen found himself alone behind the Buffalo State defenders and chipped a shot past Shoemaker and across the goal line. His team-leading sixth goal of the season was assisted by Friedlander.
• The Bengals answered just under two minutes later. Kowa headed home a Nacho Caceres corner kick for his fifth goal of the season.
• Buffalo State took a 2-1 lead in the 29th minute. Almontaser ripped a left-footed shot from 20 yards out into the upper right corner of the cage.  
• Hobart tied the game just before halftime on Nick Kasper’s first goal of the season. He collected a pass from Connor Koschineg and bent a shot around the diving goalie.
• In the 59th minute Friedlander scored the game-winning goal. He collected a pass from Madsen and curled a shot inside the left goalpost. It was Friedlander’s third goal of the season.

• In the 10th minute, Hobart had a flurry of chances. Frederick Madsen and Koschineg had shots blocked by Buffalo State Defenders and Amad Miller had a shot stopped by Shoemaker.
• In the 24th minute, Friedlander had a golden scoring opportunity blocked by his teammate.
• Hobart appeared to tie the game in the 35th minute, but the goal was wiped off the board because of an offsides call.
