Two key Jets defenders are cleared for Giants game

A little more than 24 hours after Jets head coach Robert Saleh hinted that a decision on cornerbacks Sauce Gardner and D.J. Reedโ€™s game status might not come until hours before they play the Giants on Sunday, it appears the team has seen enough.

On Friday, Saleh announced that Gardner and Reed have cleared concussion protocol, reports Andy Vasquez of NJ Advance Media.

โ€œIt gives us a lot of flexibility on defense and allows you to do a couple of things that you normally wouldnโ€™t with those two there,โ€ Saleh told reporters.

Both players were unavailable for the Jetsโ€™ 20-14 upset over the Eagles in Week 6. Now, theyโ€™ll look to help their team take down the other NFC East team they happen to share a building with.

Reed was placed on concussion protocol after the Jetsโ€™ loss to the Chiefs in Week 4. Itโ€™s unclear when exactly Reed suffered the concussion since he played all 70 snaps in that game. Prior to that, Reed had started every game at cornerback since the Jets signed him as a free agent in March 2022.

Gardner was ruled out of Week 6 less than 24 hours before playing the Eagles. Initially, Saleh reported that the Pro Bowl corner suffered an โ€œillnessโ€

On Thursday afternoon, Gardner scared fans when he posted a confused emoji on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. Later, he clarified clarified the tweet, posting, โ€œIt was a mistake. (I didnโ€™t) mean to scar yโ€™all like that.โ€
