STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – A favorite Staten Island eatery is no more.
The Boston Market location on Arthur Kill Road in Greenridge Plaza was closed this Tuesday after the Marshalโs Office shuttered the store.
Boston Marketโs corporate office has been embroiled in a number of lawsuits involving workers, vendors and landlords, the Advance reported.
The Greenridge location had been in operation for decades.
A Boston Market shop on Forest Avenue in Port Richmond continues to operate, with employees being helped by gratuities left in a tip jar on the counter.
Employees there have faced difficulties this fall, the Advance reported, with skipped pay cycles, erratic store hours and a slowly dwindling staff.
Based on employee reports, the formal punch-in/punch-out process had been abandoned in recent months and workers started receiving hand-written checks in September, a situation one former staffer considered โhighly unprofessional.โ
At one point, the Forest Avenue restaurant couldnโt take credit cards and soda fountain machines were marked โout of orderโ as syrup wasnโt delivered.
Workers say theyโve filed numerous reports with the state Department of Labor. They cite the New York City Fast Food Workersโ Rights under the Fair Workweek Law, which upholds regular hours and premium pay for schedule changes and closings or openings.
