An elderly New Jersey man, who died two weeks after being knocked off his bike from a punch to the jaw, apparently knew his accused attacker prior to the fatal encounter, according to NJ.com.
Anthony Collins, 40, of Seaside Heights, has been charged with manslaughter and endangering an injured victim in connection to the Sept. 18 assault, NJ Advance Media reports.
The victim, Robert May, 70, encountered Collins while on a bike at the intersection of Central and Sumner avenues in Seaside Heights at about 4 p.m., the paper reported at the time.
According to court documents, Collins punched May in the jaw โ knocking him off the bike onto the concrete where he struck his head on the pavement.
The suspectโs girlfriend, who worked with the victim, told investigators the two men did not get along prior to the incident, the report said. The woman told police she and Collins encountered May that afternoon and May hit her in the waist area with the handlebar of his bike, said the report, citing court documents. She said May then called Collins a racial slur, authorities said.
