BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — Hundreds of families made their way to the Brooklyn Heights Promenade on Saturday morning for a time-honored neighborhood favorite, the Brooklyn Heights Association’s 2023 Halloween Parade.

It seemed like the superheroes were stronger, the princesses and fairies more beautiful, and the vampires and witches spookier than ever this year — and an impressive amount of imagination went into family group costumes.

There were at least two different takes on The Addams Family, both spectacular; several hard-hatted construction crews with real tools; a red-striped ‘Where’s Waldo’ family; and a Dracula family featuring an adorable dark angel with black wings. One family group came as matching dinosaurs, with hand-crafted cardboard dino-heads. An infant was transformed into a leafy vegetable in Mr. McGregor’s garden (a takeoff on “The Tale of Peter Rabbit”).  Some of the takes were hilarious  — a boy dressed like a turd emoji was accompanied by a walking toilet.

A giant green frog was an absolute toddler magnet, with dozens of wide-eyed little ones running up to pat its belly, hold its hand or pose for photos.

The costumed stroll along one of the world’s most scenic walkways was enhanced this year by warm weather and perfect sunshine, a relief after so many recent rained-out Saturdays. After the parade, many families headed to Plymouth Church’s annual Yankee Fair or to Montague Street’s “SPOOK-tacular” Halloween-themed Open Streets event, sponsored by the Montague BID and BHA.
