Programs offer help with repairs for homeowners in distressed Buffalo neighborhoods

Grants for homeowners to fix up residences in distressed Buffalo neighborhoods are now available through the Buffalo Urban Renewal Agency’s 50/50 and Target/Focus Area programs.

Both programs provide funding to help take care of building code issues and lead-based paint hazards in one- and two-family homes.

The 50/50 program covers half the repair costs up to $25,000, while the Target program is directed toward homes on certain designated streets. To be eligible, household income must fall within federal low-income guidelines.

The programs are administered through the Matt Urban Center, which serves districts in East Buffalo, and Heart of the City Neighborhoods, which works in various areas throughout the city.

For more information, call the Matt Urban Center at 716-893-7222, ex. 213, or Heart of the City Neighborhoods at 716-882-7661. Information also is available on the agency websites at urbanctr.org and hocn.org.
