International Institute updates winter guide, translates it into four more languages

In addition to updating and re-releasing its life-saving information on how to survive one of the region’s infamously treacherous winter storms, the International Institute announced Tuesday that it has translated the warnings into four more languages.

The institute’s fliers on winter weather preparedness were already available inย many of the top languages spoken in Western New York, including English, Arabic, Burmese, Dari, French, Karen, Pashto, Somali and Swahili. This year the institute has added Bengali, Spanish, Kinyarwanda and Ukrainian.

The aim is to equip city residents with vital information, essential resources and more to navigate the challenges of winter in Buffalo.

Jennifer Rizzo-Choi, executive director of the institute, noted in a statement that many of the agency’s recent new arrivals have never experienced winter weather, let alone a Buffalo winter.

“Letโ€™s make sure our newest neighbors have the information that they need to be prepared and to stay safe,” said Rizzo-Choi. “Thatโ€™s what living in the ‘City of Good Neighbors’ is all about, isnโ€™t it?”
