FALLSBURG- The Town of Fallsburg is taking significant steps to bolster fire safety and support its dedicated volunteer firefighters by announcing the installation of ten new fire hydrants each year throughout the town. The town is also looking into the installation of dry fire hydrants. In addition, the town has approved new false alarm laws aimed at curbing unnecessary disruptions and ensuring the availability of resources for genuine emergencies.
These initiatives, spearheaded by Town of Fallsburg Supervisor Kathy Rappaport, underscore the town’s unwavering commitment to public safety and the invaluable contributions of its volunteer firefighters. “Ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents is our utmost priority, and a plan for the installation of dry fire hydrants is a substantial step towards achieving that goal,” said Rappaport. “These standard and dry fire hydrants will not only improve our firefighting capabilities but also provide peace of mind to our community, knowing that we are taking proactive measures to protect their lives and property.”
Dry fire hydrants, unlike traditional hydrants, do not rely on a connected water supply but instead draw water from nearby sources such as ponds, lakes, or reservoirs. This innovative approach allows for greater flexibility in hydrant placement, significantly expanding the town’s firefighting capabilities.
The installation of these fire hydrants will be carried out strategically across Fallsburg to maximize accessibility for emergency responders.
