Purse snatched at gunpoint in rush-hour robbery on Staten Island, NYPD says

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. —A woman was robbed at gunpoint in Port Richmond during the Thursday evening rush hour, according to police.

The incident occurred around 5 p.m. at Anderson and Park avenues, according to a spokesman for the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.

The victim is a 31-year-old woman who lives on Staten Island, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation.

The woman was walking down Anderson Avenue near Park Avenue when an unknown male who had been following her approached. He allegedly brandished a gun and used force to remove the woman pocketbook before fleeing with her property to parts unknown, according to the police spokesman.

The purse contained items that included identification and a debit card, the police spokesman said.

The suspect is described by police as a male with a light complexion who stands about 5′5″ tall and was wearing a gray jacket gray sweatpants and black sneakers.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

No arrests have been made and the investigation continues, the police spokesman said.
