The Giants on Saturday placed tight end Darren Waller (hamstring) and backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor (rib cage) on injured reserve.
So theyโre both out at least four games. The soonest they can return is after the Week 13 bye, on Dec. 11 at home against Green Bay.
The Giants also settled on Tommy DeVito as their backup quarterback for Sundayโs should-win game at the unraveling Raiders, as they left Matt Barkley โ signed last week in the wake of Taylorโs injury against the Jets โ on the practice squad.
None of these moves are surprising.
The Giants will have two kickers on their roster in Las Vegas, though Cade York might be inactive, since the Giants promoted Randy Bullock from the practice squad. York and Bullock arrived last week after the Giants put Graham Gano (knee) on IR.
Waller landing on IR essentially makes his first season with the Giants a failure, unless he somehow rallies to thrive in the final five games, after the bye.
The Giants โ who are 2-6 and have lost five of their past six games โ traded a third-round draft pick to the Raiders for Waller, while making a two-year, $24 million commitment to him. They hoped he could stay healthy, after struggling with injuries the past two seasons in Las Vegas.

As it turned out, he could not stay healthy, as his hamstring troubled him for a second straight season. And next season, when Waller turns 32 in September, his salary cap number will jump to $14.4 million โ a $10 million increase from this season.
Waller has played in every game so far this season. But he has just one touchdown catch and three impactful games โ 98 yards against Washington, 86 at Miami, and 76 at Arizona. Other than that, his highest yardage total is 43 in Buffalo.
