Corning will discuss adaption of local cannabis laws to state regs

The City of Corning has scheduled a public hearing to discuss revisions to its local cannabis laws, aligning with the New York State Office of Cannabis Management’s regulations.

The City Council’s decision on Monday to hold the hearing comes as a response to the potential for legal cannabis retail stores to open in Corning, with two such stores already expressing interest in the city. The hearing will allow residents to voice their opinions, which will be considered in the Council’s final verdict on local law number eight.

Mayor Bill Boland explained the need for adjustments, noting that current local prohibitions do not align with the state’s finalized guidelines. The public’s input at the upcoming hearing will play a crucial role in shaping whether the city will greenlight the operation of cannabis shops within its jurisdiction. This legislative move would enable businesses with appropriate permits to commence operations, potentially transforming the city’s commercial landscape.

The City Council meeting and hearing are set for December 4th at 6:30 p.m. at Corning City Hall, located at 500 Civic Center Plaza. The Council emphasizes the importance of community participation in this legal discourse and invites public attendance and engagement in the decision-making process.
