ALBANY — Isaiah Wong and Jordan Miller recovered from their slow game Friday to lead No. 5 Miami to an 85-69 win over No. 5 Indiana on Sunday night at MVP Arena.
Wong, a junior guard, had 27 points, going 4-for-6 from 3-point range, and Miller, a senior guard, added 19 for the Hurricanes. Sophomore forward Norchad Omier grabbed 17 rebounds, eight on the offensive glass, helping Miami to a 29-11 advantage in second-chance points.
Senior forward Trayce Jackson-Davis led the Hoosiers with 23 points and eight rebounds, and freshman guard Jalen Hood-Schifino had 19 points and three assists.
Miami led for most of the game but was unable to push the lead until sophomore guard Wooga Poplar laid it in after an offensive rebound by Wong, starting a 16-2 run that put the Hurricanes back up by double digits. Half of their points in that stretch were from second chances.
Hood-Schifino drained three 3-pointers in a row to get Indiana back within eight with 2:26 left, but the Hurricanes ended the game with an 8-0 run.
Miami, which struggled against Drake’s defense on Friday, had a much better start to Sunday’s game, making nine of its first 12 shots and building a 13-point lead after nine minutes. Indiana’s Jackson-Davis went off for seven straight points to close the gap, and junior guard Trey Galloway made a 3 to cap a 10-0 run.
Then it was Wong’s turn to go to work: He hit a layup on an inbounds play and converted a four-point play to end Miami’s three-minute scoring drought. Miller got the lead back to double digits with a putback, but Kopp scored five in a row in the last minute, including a corner 3 just before the buzzer, and Indiana stretched that to a 12-0 run to start the second half, taking its first lead of the game.
