#1 Hobart cruises past Southern Maine 10-0

Hobart College first-year Chris Duclair recorded a hat trick as the top-ranked Statesmen skated to a 10-0 victory over the University of Southern Maine in a New England Hockey Conference contest at USM Ice Arena this evening. It was the fourth consecutive shutout for the Statesmen.

Hobart (4-1-0, 3-0-0) was led by first-year Bauer Morrissey’s four points on a goal and three assists. Duclair matched Hobart’s game record with three goals. Sophomore Kahlil Fontana also had a multi-goal game in the victory. Sophomore Damon Beaver stopped all 15 shots he faced as he earned the shutout.

Mason Palmer started in goal for the Huskies (1-1-1, 0-1-1). Jacob Kindestin played the final 17 minutes, making nine saves.

FOR THE RECORD

  • With his second shutout of the season, Beaver now has nine career shutouts, second on Hobart’s all-time list.
  • It is the most goals that Hobart has scored in a game since Feb. 4, 2022, when the Statesmen beat Castleton 12-2.

  • Hobart finished the game with a 43-15 advantage in shots on goal.
  • The Statesmen were 4-for-6 on the power play and Southern Maine was 0-for-2 with the man advantage.

SCORING SUMMARY

  • Hobart opened the scoring at the 10:14 mark of the first period. Fontana snapped a shot from the right faceoff circle past Palmer for his second goal of the season. Tanner Daniels was awarded an assist on the goal.
  • Three minutes later, Luke Aquaro gave Hobart a 2-0 lead. He wristed a shot over Palmer’s glove for his fifth goal of the season. Morrissey and Daniels had assists on the goal.
  • Tristan Fasig and Tanner Hartman added goals late in the first period. Fasig tipped home a shot from the low slot for his first goal of the season. Brandon Sacchetti was awarded an assist on the goal. Hartman’s goal came with one second left in the frame. The power-play goal was assisted by Cooper Swift and Matthieu Wuth.
  • Morrissey extended the lead to five goals with his first collegiate goal. He scored 14 seconds into the middle frame.
