The William Smith College ice hockey team was edged by the University of Southern Maine 1-0 in a New England Hockey Conference contest at The Cooler this evening. The Herons are now 2-3-0 overall this season with a 2-1-0 mark in conference play.
Annie Hauserย played just over 59 minutes in goal. She made 23 saves.
Jess MacLean scored for the Huskies (3-2-0, 1-0-0). Haley McKim made 40 saves as she earned the shutout.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- William Smith finished the game with a 40-24 advantage in shots on goal.
- Neither team scored a power-play goal. William Smith was 0-for-3 with the extra attacker and Southern Maine was 0-for-1.
- Four of the six meetings between the Herons and Huskies have been decided by one goal.
SCORING SUMMARY
- MacLean had the gameโs lone goal at the 4:10 mark of the first period. She fired a shot from the point through traffic and past Hauser. Her first goal of the season was assisted by Oliva Stewart and Saige MacLeod.
CHANCES
- Late in the first period,ย Annabel Ziskinย ripped a shot that cleanly beat McKim but hit the left goalpost.
- In the third period, the Herons pushed for the equalizer, but could not solve McKim. The Herons peppered the Husky goalie with 17 shots in the final frame.
- Ziskin andย Kelly Howeย had a chance in the final 15 seconds stopped by McKim.
- Right before the final horn,ย Elizabeth MacMurrayย had a stuff attempt turned aside by the goalie.
