Heads up, subway riders: 7 and N trains won’t run between Manhattan and Queens this weekend as the MTA works on the next phase of accessibility upgrades at Queensboro Plaza.
The service changes will start at midnight Saturday and last through 4 a.m. Monday, according to the transit authority. Trains on the 7 line won’t run between 74th Street-Broadway and 34th Street-Hudson Yards, while N trains won’t run between 39th Avenue and 57th Street-7th Avenue.
Riders can take the E, F and R lines as an alternative, the MTA says. The Long Island Rail Road will also accommodate subway riders at no extra cost between Penn Station, Grand Central, Woodside, Mets-Willets Point, and Flushing.
The MTA plans to repeat the service changes for several weekends early next year as it continues the Queensboro Plaza project. Construction began in September 2022 and is expected to continue through September 2024.
The work includes installing new elevators, boarding areas with new platform edges, a ramp on an enlarged mezzanine, modified pedestrian bridges and upgrades for street and station stairs.
Other subway service changes this weekend include those on the 2, 3, 4 and 5 lines, which will be rerouted because of equipment installation work, from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. There will be no 2 or 3 train service in Brooklyn, so the MTA recommends riders take 4 and 5 trains as an alternative.
Due to structural maintenance work, D trains won’t be running between 161th Street-Yankee Stadium and Norwood-205th Street from 11:30 p.m Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, and downtown D trains won’t stop at 155th Street. That means there will be no D service in most of the Bronx.
J trains also won’t be running in most of Manhattan, between Delancey Street-Essex Street and Broad Street, from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, according to the MTA.
