Rally supporting cease-fire in Gaza planned for Saturday at Niagara Square

Local residents from both the Jewish and Muslim communities are expected to attend a rally in support of ending the war in Gaza starting 3 p.m. Saturday in Buffaloโ€™s Niagara Square.

The rally will be led by the Muslim Public Affairs Council of WNY and the Buffalo chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace, in collaboration with several other organizations.

The groups are demanding a cease-fire in the war between Israel and Hamas that began with the Oct. 7 attacks by Hamas on Israeli civilians.

Israelโ€™s military operation in response has led to about 11,500 deaths, the displacement of 1.6 million people and left parts of Gaza without vital necessities like water, power, food and critical life-saving medicines.

Saturdayโ€™s rally in Buffalo follows growing mass actions around the country and the world demanding a cease-fire.

Protesters clashed with police on Wednesday outside Democratic National Committee headquarters during a demonstration for a cease-fire.

The rally in Buffalo will feature multiple speakers across a range of faith and social justice organizations and include a call for prayer and peace.
