STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — From the steps of Burrito Bar in West Brighton, law enforcement officials and business advocates took a stance on partying this Thanksgiving Eve. The message: if you’re headed to or coming from Staten Island on the busiest bar night of the year, get a ride.
And take advantage of a $10 Uber credit, good only on Wednesday, Nov. 22 from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m.
The District Attorney’s Office secured the promotion for Staten Island only. A passenger can enter the voucher code SISAFERIDE23 to unlock two $10 credits for trips to and from any Staten Island location. The discount is available on a first-come, first serve basis.
District Attorney Michael McMahon maintained, “Rides can begin or end on Staten Island. If it’s a house party or a basement party, get a ride. It’s not OK to drink and drive.”

NYPD Deputy Chief Ebony Washington said, “Thanksgiving is the beginning of the holiday season. It’s OK to have a good time — responsibly.”
She suggested that if not taking a professional car service, ask a relative for a lift.
Staten Island Economic Development Corporation president and CEO Michael Cusick shared, “The [Uber] program will actually save lives. It’s safety also for our business owners to proceed with the holidays knowing they’re taking care of their customers.”

Beckett said she understood the gravity of drinking and driving both “as a business owner and a mom.”
Lacey underscored the importance of Thanksgiving Eve to bar owners. At the same time, he underscored, the safety of Staten Islanders is most important.
