Coastal storm to impact NYC this weekend. Here’s what AccuWeather predicts

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — As the Thanksgiving leftovers dwindle and the winter holiday decorations are unboxed, a strengthening storm is set to sweep through the region.

According to AccuWeather, a coastal storm will continue its trajectory northeastward off the East Coast, bringing with it rain and snow. The storm will impact the mid-Atlantic and New England late this weekend into early next week.

Sunday will see the onset of some precipitation affecting the areas of eastern Virginia, Maryland and Delaware, AccuWeather predicts. However, as night falls, New York City, New Jersey and Pennsylvania will begin to see rainfall.

By Monday morning, the heaviest rain will have concentrated in cities across New England, such as Boston, and Hartford, Connecticut; Rainfall amounts are expected to measure anywhere between half an inch to one inch, according to AccuWeather.

The storm is expected to bring some cold air, which could result in snowfall in states such as New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine late Sunday night into Monday.

Those making their way back from family festivities may want to plan additional travel time in case of difficult driving conditions. AccuWeather suggests air travelers regularly monitor the forecast and check with their airline as the adverse weather conditions may cause delays and cancellations.

Anyone traveling upstate will want to especially monitor the forecast as the first significant lake-effect snow event of the season will likely unfold across the Great Lakes region, bringing heavy snowfall to areas in western and central New York state Sunday night through Tuesday, according to AccuWeather.
