Police: Father arrested for assaulting infant child

A 22-year-old Utica man, Miguel Pizarro, has been arrested following an incident involving his 3-month-old child, who is now in critical condition.

The Utica Police and Fire Departments responded to an emergency call at around 1:45 p.m. on Thursday, November 23, at a residence on the 900 block of Lenox Avenue, where they found the infant unresponsive and displaying signs of severe neurological and physical distress.

The investigation revealed that the father had allegedly shaken the baby, causing significant injuries that necessitated immediate medical attention. The child was rushed to Wynn Hospital, where life-saving efforts were initiated. A CT scan revealed a serious brain bleed, and the childโ€™s condition continued to deteriorate, leading to the decision to transfer them to a hospital in Syracuse for further treatment. Pizarro had left the scene before first responders arrived but was later apprehended by police.

Pizarro is currently charged with reckless assault of a child, and additional charges may be pending as the investigation continues. The infant remains hospitalized with serious injuries.
