Syracuse earns bowl eligibility with win over Wake Forest (full coverage)

The Syracuse Orange closed out the 2023 regular season on Saturday afternoon with a 35-31 victory over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons at the JMA Wireless Dome, improving to 6-6 on the season and earning bowl eligibility.

Senior safetyย Jason Simmons Jr.ย sealed the win with a goal-line interception as the Orange are in line for a bowl berth for a second-straight season โ€“ the first time since 2012 and 2013 Syracuse will head to a bowl in back-to-back seasons.

Syracuse piled up 468 yards of total offense, balancing 224 passing yards with 244 rushing yards. LeQuint Allenย Jr. ran for a career-best 144 of those rushing yards, whileย Dan Villariย piled on 51 rushing yards. The latter accounted for two touchdowns, one passing, and one rushing.ย Garrett Shraderย threw for 173 yards and three touchdowns in his final game at the Dome, completing 10 of his 15 attempts.ย Damien Alfordย reeled in four catches for 126 yards and a career-best two touchdowns.ย Umari Hatcherย grabbed five passes for 76 yards.
