A 38-year-old man was shot and killed in East New York on Tuesday afternoon, according to the NYPD.
An unknown gunman shot the man in the chest at 721 Vermont St. just after 2 p.m., police said. Cops and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene after someone called 911 to report the shooting, and the paramedics rushed the man to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Law enforcement has not yet released the victim’s name, as they are waiting to notify his family members.
According to the NYPD, no arrests related to the homicide have been made, and police are still investigating the incident.Â
As of Nov. 26, when the most recent police data was reported, there had been 21 homicides in the 75th Precinct, where Tuesday’s incident took place, in 2023. Murders in the precinct are down slightly from the same time last year, when 24 murders had been recorded — and murders have been steadily declining in the precinct over the last 30 years.
Still, the last few days in East New York have been bloody. A man was stabbed to death on a street corner in the 75th Precinct on Thanksgiving night, and the body of an unidentified man in his 30s was discovered in a U-Haul truck in the neighborhood on Nov. 21.Â
