Herons drop nonconference matchup to Hamilton

The William Smith College basketball team fell 57-37 in a nonconference matchup with Hamilton College this evening in Bristol Gymnasium. The Herons fall to 0-5 on the season while the visiting Continentals stay unbeaten and move to 6-0.

Seniorย Brooke Jarvisย led the Herons with 14 points, six rebounds and three assists in the loss. Juniorย Molly Walshย chipped in seven points and three assists while first-yearย Jazzmyn Lewisย sparked William Smithโ€™s defense in the second half forcing five steals and grabbing two rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Herons and the Continentals traded the early points as Jarvis and first-yearย Amelia McCulleyย sunk two three pointers to open the game on top 6-4.
  • William Smithโ€™s lead didnโ€™t last long as Hamilton matched efficient scoring with strong defensive pressure to force an 11-0 run heading into the second quarter.
  • The Herons responded with their best offensive quarter of the game in the second, scoring 18 points as a team. Jarvis scored seven of her 14 points in the second quarter to help bring William Smith within reach.
  • The Herons went on a 5-0 run in the final minute of the first half behind a deep three from sophomoreย Carly Scottย and a buzzer beating jump shot from seniorย Fiona Horanย to cut William Smithโ€™s deficit to 11 heading into the half.
