ALBANY – The towns of Germantown and Poughkeepsie will receive a total of more than $540,000 in community forest conservation grants to protect forest resources of local importance.
Germantown will receive $240,340 for the acquisition of 23 acres adjacent to the town’s Palatine Park and historic First Reform Church of Germantown parsonage.
The project will extend a trail network, providing easy access from nearby parking areas, and expand recreational opportunities for the town’s 2,000 residents.
The Town of Poughkeepsie will receive $300,000 for the acquisition of 95 acres on two forested parcels referred to as the “North 1200.”
The land contains a mature oak forest, undulating terrain with rocky outcrops and ridges, acres of small wetlands and seasonal streams, and a small meadow.
The acquisition will preserve green spaces, conserve critical habitats, and crease new recreational amenities for the community.
