TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – Town police, with the assistance of surrounding law enforcement agencies, are investigating the robbery of two South Road/Route 9 gas stations in the town. The incident occurred just before 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Chestnut Mobil gas station at 2605 South Road and the Speedway gas station at 2545 South Road.
The Chestnut Mobil is on the southbound side of Route 9 just north of the Price Chopper Plaza and the Speedway is immediately south of the Price Chopper Plaza.
Police were searching for what is believed to be a female suspect who fled north on foot after the Speedway robbery. The sequence of the robberies has not been released.
Just before 9:00 p.m. Wednesday evening, a Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Detective with the Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Unit met town cops at the former Dutchess Golf Course on the other side of Route 9, just north of the Poughkeepsie Plaza, to search the abandoned parcel with a drone. The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office UAS unit has drones equipped with night vision, high-powered spotlights, a PA speaker, and other undisclosed technology to aid in searching for suspects and other rescue operations. The UAS unit has assisted with the rescue of stranded swimmers and helped firefighters at a hard-to-reach brush fire.
