Weekend forecast: Pair of storms to impact NYC amid return to mild temperatures

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Although some areas of New York state are expected to receive even more snow, New York City will kick off December with a wet weekend.

Milder conditions will characterize the weekend, as temperatures are expected to rebound to historical averages. The return of typical temps will occur thanks to a switch in the flow of air from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico, as noted by an AccuWeather report. This week alone featured the coldest days of the season thus far, with the Advance/SILive.com weather station charting Tuesday’s low at 29 degrees and Wednesday’s at 25.

Despite this, storms originating in the South will bring moisture to both the Northeast and Midwest, according to AccuWeather. Beginning Friday into Friday night, portions of upstate New York and New England may be chilly enough to foster wet snowfall. During this same time period, the storm will bring rain to the NYC area; potential patchy fog may linger into Saturday morning, as mentioned by AccuWeather.

As of the time of publication, AccuWeather foresees Friday’s temps at a high of 51 and a low of 44. The chance of rain? Sixty-three percent.

Saturday holds the promise of a dry, mostly cloudy day, with mild temperatures reaching a high of 57, and a low of 48. This’ll likely be the most favorable day for any festive outings.

On Sunday, a second storm from the South will make its way into the region, spreading rain along the I-95 corridor and parts of the Appalachians, according to AccuWeather. The chance of rain currently stands at 84%.

Sunday is forecast to feature yet another mild high of 55 and a low of 44.
