NEW HAMTPON – The cause of a fire that destroyed a home in New Hampton on Friday morning is under investigation.
Smoke could be seen billowing from the house at 55 McVeigh Road at around 8 a.m.
The homeowner said he weas making his morning coffee when he smelled smoke. He went outside and saw fire coming from the back of his house and garage.
He said he tried to extinguish the fire with a garden hose but it was frozen.
He suffered burns to his hands and was seen being treated by medics across the street.
The resident says his three older children were also in the house and got out safely.
Nearly three dozen firefighters responded to fight the blaze that took more than an hour to knock it down.
There were no injuries reported.
