In a surprise announcement on Saturday, the Waterloo Board of Education confirmed that Superintendent Terri Bavis will retire effective December 3 culminating her seven-year tenure.
The district recognized Bavis for her dedication and leadership, wishing her a fulfilling retirement. Her decision comes after 36 years in public education, influenced partly by her father’s recent passing and a desire to focus on family and new aspirations.
The Board has appointed Mike Midey as the interim superintendent. A seasoned educational leader, he has previously served as superintendent in the Bloomfield and Romulus school districts and is a long-standing resident of Seneca Falls.
To aid in the search for a new superintendent, the board plans to collaborate with Mike Ford, an experienced facilitator who has assisted in superintendent searches for several districts, including Seneca Falls, Marcus Whitman, and Marion.
Bavis, reflecting on her tenure, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the Waterloo community and pride in the accomplishments achieved during her time as superintendent.
