Hobart College sophomore forward Tanner Hartman broke a Hobart single-game record, scoring four goals as the second-ranked Statesmen cruised to an 8-0 victory over Johnson and Wales University in a New England Hockey Conference contest at The Cooler this afternoon. He added an assist to finish the game with five points.
Hartman’s four-goal outburst came a day after he set Hobart’s single-game record for assists (5) and points (6). Five other skaters recorded multi-point games for the Statesmen (9-2-0, 5-1-0). Junior Cooper Swift had a game-high three assists. Sophomore Mavrick Goyer played all 60 minutes in goal for Hobart. He made 26 saves as he notched his third shutout of the season.
Jason Friedman started in goal for the Wildcats (1-7-1, 1-6-1). He made 51 saves in just over 46 minutes of work. Jake Perin came on in relief and made 13 saves.
STREAKING
- With the win, the Statesmen have won 27 straight games at The Cooler. It is the longest active streak in the nation and tied for the second longest in NCAA Division III history.
- Hobart has not allowed a power-play goal in its first 11 games of the season. They have killed off 31 straight power play opportunities.
RECORD BOOKS
- Hartman’s five points in today’s game are tied for second on Hobart’s single-season list, trailing only his own six-point performance last night against UMass Boston.
- Goyer’s third shutout of the season moved him into a tie for fifth on Hobart’s single-season list.
- It was Hobart’s seventh shutout of the year. That is the second most in program history, trailing only last year’s nine.
SCORING SUMMARY
- The Statesmen opened the scoring at the 18:39 mark of the first period when Brandon Sacchetti redirected a Chris Duclair shot past Friedman for his first collegiate goal. Bauer Morrissey also notched an assist on the power-play goal.
