The struggles of Onondaga County daycare providers to stay in business, despite high demand for their services post-pandemic and an influx of millions in state and county aid, illustrate the gap between governmentโ€™s good intentions and its poor execution.

Red tape, slow and clunky reimbursements, complicated safety regulations and a lack of mentors to help new providers navigate this maze are making it hard โ€” if not impossible โ€” for them to operate profitably.
