Last week Governor Kathy Hochul announced that New York State is allocating $100 million for the repair of roads affected by extreme weather conditions.
A $1.9 million project in Cayuga County will focus on resurfacing Route 90, starting from Route 326 near Union Springs to the village of Cayuga line, and including the section running through the village of Aurora. This initiative is part of the state’s effort to address the increasing impact of severe weather on infrastructure.
Additionally, neighboring counties will also benefit from the state’s infrastructure investment. In Tompkins County, an $8.1 million project will focus on resurfacing routes 13, 34, and 96 from Elmira Road to the northern Ithaca city line, with several streets within Ithaca itself slated for repaving.
The state’s commitment extends to Wayne County, where $2.2 million will be spent on resurfacing Route 14 from the former Lyons village line to Route 104 in the towns of Lyons and Sodus.
Overall, the funding will support 66 projects, covering nearly 568 lane miles of pavement.
The projects are scheduled to commence in spring 2024, marking a significant step towards enhancing New York’s road infrastructure in light of the challenges posed by climate change and extreme weather events.
