STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Looks like it’s time to dump your coin jars to see if you have pennies that could be worth $23 million.
According to Go Banking Rates, there are 10 most valuable pennies currently circulating in 2023, that range in value from hundreds of thousands to millions.
Most of the pennies on the list are “Wheat Pennies” from the 1940s. However, they are not the typical wheat pennies. These pennies have specific characteristics that make them stand out, with an “error.”
Below are the pennies, according to Go Banking Rates:
- 1943-D Lincoln Bronze Wheat Penny — $2.3 million
- 1793 Strawberry Leaf Cent — $862,000
- 1944-S Steel Wheat Penny — $408,000
- 1943-S Lincoln Cent Struck on Bronze — $282,000

If you do come across any of these in your possession, don’t get hyped just yet — the value of each coin depends on the condition of the penny. Coins that are in excellent, mint condition, are worth a lot more.
However, rarity also plays a a factor, and can determine the value of the coins. This, especially, includes ones with mistakes such as an image that has been double-struck from the die slipping.
