STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Everything costs more these days, and next year, shipping via the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) will go up in price too.
Starting Jan. 21, ground advantage prices will increase by 5.4 percent, priority mail service prices will increase by 5.7 percent, and priority mail express service prices will increase by 5.9 percent, according to USPS.
USPS filed notice with the Postal Regulatory Commission of price increases last month after the postal service governors approved the increases, and the commission will review the prices before they are scheduled to take effect.
The mail service previously announced stamp prices would increase Jan. 21 as well, rising from 66 cents to 68 cents for Forever Stamps.
“The Postal Service continues to offer a great value in shipping. Unlike some other shippers, the Postal Service has upfront pricing and does not add surcharges for residential and regular Saturday delivery or fuel. Also, the Postal Service offers convenient flat rate and cubic pricing options,” USPS wrote in its announcement last month..
USPS is also seeking price adjustments for certain services including Post Office Box rental fees and some international mail.
The complete USPS price filings with prices for all products can be found on the PRC website under the edockets System.
