Early morning fire at park brings first responders

POUGHKEEPSIE – City police and firefighters were dispatched to a trash can on fire at a city park at approximately 6:45 a.m. on Wednesday, December 6.  The report was made by a neighbor of the newly refurbished Malcolm X Park on Mansion Street.

Firefighters and police arrived and observed a fire at the rear of the park.  As they approached, they determined that the flames were contained inside the cooking grill near the pavilion and were being tended to by a man who started the fire to cook and provide heat.  The weather at the time included light misting rain and an air temperature of 32 degrees.

The firefighters determined that the fire did not need to be extinguished and returned to service.
