Staten Island Advance/SILive awarded breaking news award for the ‘Tottenville High School Shooting’ series

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The New York News Publishers Association recognized the outstanding contributions of the 2023 Staten Island Advance/SILive.com staff.

The latest recognition highlights the achievement of the Staten Island Advance/SILive.com staff in securing the Distinguished Breaking News Coverage Award for their collaborative effort on the “Tottenville School Shotting” series.

Those who contributed to the coverage included managing producer of breaking news Eddie D’Anna, social media reporter Shane DiMaio, and breaking news reporter Shaina McLawrence.

Shane DiMaio, the newsroom social media expert, raced to the scene and began a live video broadcast that lasted for 45 minutes and was viewed 35,000 times as we brought information to frightened families who could not make it to the site.

“I take a lot of pride in making sure that if something is happening on Staten Island –especially if it’s a breaking news story with major significance — that I’m there on the scene with live video…
