Giants to get defensive boost on Monday night, per report

Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence is expected to play against the Packers on “Monday Night Football,” reports Jordan Raanan of ESPN.

After participating in practice on Friday without incident, coach Brian Daboll said he was “hopeful” Lawrence would face Green Bay. On Saturday, Lawrence was listed as questionable on the team’s final injury report.

Now it seems the Pro Bowler is ready to go for the first time since the Giants’ 31-19 over the Commanders on Nov. 19.

Lawrence was ruled out hours before the game against the Patriots on Nov. 26 with a hamstring injury. Fortunately, the Giants’ defense was able to hold New England to just seven points in the win.

In 11 games this season, Lawrence has 41 tackles, four sacks and 17 quarterback hits. He’s fourth in the NFL with a 92.5 pass-rush grade, according to Pro Football Focus.

Lawrence drew some criticism after the Giants 49-17 loss to the Cowboys in Week 10. After the defense allowed 640 yards, the second-highest total in franchise history, Lawrence didn’t speak to the media, using his birthday as an excuse.

The next day, Lawrence addressed the media in a Zoom call.

“It had nothing to do with losing to Dallas,” Lawrence said, via Bob Brookover of NJ Advance Media. “It had nothing to do with frustration or any of that. That’s ridiculous for someone to be sensitive because I wanted to go see my family. That’s all I have to say about that.”

With the Giants having won their last two games, Lawrence hopes to help continue the streak — and good vibes – against the Packers on Monday night.
