Syracuse, N.Y. — A Baldwinsville man was arrested last week after a monthslong graffiti spree in downtown Syracuse, police said.
Colin Kolodziejczyk, 24, was charged with two felonies and more than a dozen misdemeanors, including criminal mischief, making graffiti and possessing graffiti instruments.
He was pleaded not guilty Dec. 7 and was released on non-monetary bail conditions.
Kolodziejczyk was responsible for over $8,800 in damages, according to police spokesperson Lt. Matthew Malinowski. A second suspect who has been identified, but not located and arrested, caused about $17,000 in damages, the police spokesman added.
Kolodziejczyk painted “Panza” or “Panze” across mailboxes, walls and utility poles in August, September and November, police said. He also tagged a metal door at Georgio’s Furs on South Salina Street with “PA” on Nov. 16.
The metal door at Georgio’s Furs that Kolodziejczyk tagged cost $8,000 to replace. Other tags painted onto businesses cost between $40 to $80 to clean, according to criminal complaints obtained by Syracuse.com | The Post-Standard.
Malinowski said detectives started their investigation after the Nov. 16 incident, interviewing numerous people and conducting an “extensive” canvass across the neighborhood and city. Those efforts led to police connecting previous graffiti incidents.
On Dec. 6, police executed four search warrants, Malinowski said. Kolodziejczyk was seen at a local business that day and was taken into custody without incident.
Kolodziejczyk was charged with second-degree criminal mischief, third-degree criminal mischief, both felonies. He’s also charged with six counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief, eight counts of making graffiti and eight counts of possession of graffiti making instruments, all misdemeanors.
Kolodziejczyk will appear in court at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
Police ask anyone with information about the graffiti spree to call them at 315-442-5222.
