A suspect was arrested Tuesday in connection with the November shooting on a C train in Brooklyn, police said.
The NYPD charged Alexander Villafana, a 20-year-old Brooklyn resident, with attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment. Police said he was involved in the rush-hour shooting on Nov. 28 as the train pulled into the Ralph Avenue station in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
At the time, Villafana and a 17-year-old got into a verbal argument before he fired a weapon, hitting the teen and a 52-year-old bystander, according to police.
The teen was hit in the hand and the bystander in the leg, officials said. Both were reported to be in stable condition the following day.
Villafana’s attorney information was not immediately available. In a statement, NYC Transit President Richard Davey said the case underscored the importance of cameras in helping apprehend suspects in subway incidents.
โWith hundreds more cameras being installed every month inside subway cars, itโs never been clearer that anyone targeting New Yorkers in transit will be identified, caught, and brought to face justice,” he said. “Iโve said before that weโve got more cameras than a Las Vegas casino and as this case demonstrates, they are positioned to assist investigators when necessary.”
Jessy Edwards contributed reporting.
