Real Christmas Committee launches holiday card initiative

The Real Christmas Committee in Waterloo has launched an initiative to bring festive cheer to residents in local nursing homes and long-term care facilities.

This year, the committee is extending their card-giving tradition to include the Huntington and Seneca Nursing Homes, as well as the Veterans Affairs Medical Long Term Care Center in Canandaigua.

In a community-wide effort, residents are invited to sign Christmas cards at various local businesses such as All Smiles Dentistry, Austins Rehab, Catalano Chiropractic, and several others, including the Waterloo Library and Waterloo Woolens. Cards specifically for the Canandaigua Veterans Affairs long-term care center can be signed at the First Presbyterian Friday Lunch Program.

Committee members Laurel Callahan and Nancy Gray are overseeing the collection and distribution of these cards. The initiative has already seen a positive response from the community, with many people taking the opportunity to sign cards and convey their personal greetings. Gray emphasizes the goal of reaching every resident with a Christmas message, ensuring that no one feels forgotten during the holiday season. With several locations available for signing cards, there is ample opportunity for more community members to participate in this thoughtful gesture of holiday kindness.
