With Boulevard Mall inching toward demolition, Boulevard Bear Band gets new home

When Ryan Lysarz of Riverside found out that the Boulevard Mall would be closed and demolished in favor of a town center project, he had just one concern.

“What will happen to the Boulevard Bear Band?” he said.

The Town of Amherst intends to create an urban renewal area covering the Boulevard Mall, and a wide swath of the neighboring commercial district, to try to jump-start the revival of the fading shopping center.

Now, in what he considers an early Christmas gift, he has an answer,

The bears will be given new life and are heading to a new home for display at Seneca One tower.

“Doug Jemal and the Douglas Development team in Buffalo are getting the band back together,” said Sean Heidinger, director of business development for Douglas Jemal and Douglas Development.
