Knicks sign veteran big man after Mitchell Robinson injury

In the wake of Mitchell Robinson needing ankle surgery that will sideline him 8-10 weeks, the Knicks signed veteran big man Taj Gibson to a one-year deal to give them some frontcourt depth, agent Mark Bartelstein of Priority Sports confirmed to NJ Advance Media.

The news was previously reported by ESPN and SNY.

Gibson, 38, previously played for the Knicks from 2019-22.

A first-round pick out of USC in 2009, Gibson has also played for the Bulls, Thunder, Timberwolves, and Wizards. He played for Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau with the Bulls, Wolves and Knicks.

He has career averages of 8.7 points and 5.9 rebounds.

The Knicks (13-9) started Jericho Sims in Mondayโ€™s win over the Raptors, and still rely heavily on center Isaiah Hartenstein, who is averaging 5.6 points and 5.7 rebounds.
