STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Powerful wind gusts and heavy rainfall will make for hazardous flood conditions Sunday afternoon into Monday across New York state, according to AccuWeather.
Forecasters are monitoring the storm, which will arrive sometime Sunday afternoon, according to Dave Dombek, senior meteorologist for AccuWeather.
According to the forecaster, there are a couple of pieces to the storm system.
“One is kinda coming across — as we go through the next couple of days — through the southwestern states, out of Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and out into the Plains,” explained Dombek. “Another portion of it is in the process — it hasn’t developed yet, but it will over the next 24 to 46 hours.”
That second storm system according to Dombek, will be coming from the Gulf of Mexico and through northern Florida and up through the Southeast.
“It will somewhat join forces with the Mid-Atlantic system and combine into one main storm as we get into the weekend and especially into early next week,” said Dombek.
Staten Island and the New York City area shouldn’t feel any effects for the next few days.
“Friday and Saturday looks really nice, dry and pretty comfortable for this time of the year,” said Dombek. “We will start to see the effects of the storm on Sunday. Sunday looks to be a cloudier day overall, the breeze will be picking up and we do expect rain to break out during the afternoon hours.”
Currently, the meteorologist and his team do not know the exact time during the afternoon when rain will begin on Sunday.
“At first it will be a lighter type rain, it will not be coming down in buckets at first,” predicted Dombek. “That will transition into a steadier, heavier, more soaking type rain that will fall Sunday night and will last into at least part of Monday.”
