Firefighters battled a heavy fire that broke out throughout a vacant building in Brooklyn on Thursday afternoon.
FDNY members were confronted with the fire at 1424 East 2nd St. in Midwood just after 2:10 p.m. on Dec. 14. The family in the building attached to the vacant building on fire managed to escape with their toddler.
FDNY units were withdrawn from the building after the roof collapsed with firefighters still inside, with the fire escalating to a two-alarm fire at 2:17 p.m. Just over a hundred firefighters used five hose lines and a tower ladder to knock down the fire, which was brought under control at 4:23 p.m.
The FDNY Fire Marshal’s office will determine the cause and origin of the fire.
