LIBERTY – Police in the Village of Liberty have arrested a 57-year-old following an investigation into his failure to comply with the state sex offender law.
Under that law, individuals designated as sex offenders as a result of a criminal conviction for a sex offense are required to register their physical address and certain internet accounts and identifier.
On December 11, Liberty Village Police conducted a routine check to verify the information that Pedro Correa had reported to the State Division of Criminal Justice Services.
Officers developed information that led them to believe he had internet accounts and identifiers that he had not reported.
As a result, he was charged with failure to verify as a felony, arraigned and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail without bail.
Police Chief Steven D’Agata had a message for all sex offenders living in the village: “Your legal requirements to register will be closely monitored. Failure to meet those legal requirements will result in your investigation, arrest and prosecution.
