STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — ‘Tis the season to be jolly! So, to keep it merry and bright, each year at holiday time, members of the Iron Hills Civic Association celebrate the spirit of the season during their annual Holiday Dinner staged at the Richmond County Country Club.
The yearly gathering unfolded Wednesday evening with some 200 revelers at the former Italianate mansion in Dongan Hills, where family members and friends, community leaders and elected officials mixed, mingled and whiled the evening away.
Dr. Mohammad Khalid, who has served as the association’s president since 1996, organizes the event each year alongside dinner co-chairs Rosanne Clift, secretary of the board, and board member Carol Ann Benanti, Staten Island Advance columnist/features writer.
Dr. Khalid kicks off the event each year by updating members on by-laws, security issues and community concerns.
Lauded during the evening’s fare was the late Charles LaGanga, a longtime local leader who provided a lifetime of service to the community of Staten Island.
